CHEMICAL PEELS
A chemical peel uses a carefully selected solution to exfoliate the skin at a controlled depth. Depending on the formulation and your skin, it may be considered for uneven tone, rough texture, certain acne concerns or fine lines. Different peels have different aims, strengths and recovery periods.
FINDING THE RIGHT PEEL
The starting point is your skin condition, skin tone and the concern you want to address. Stronger does not automatically mean better. Melanin-rich skin needs particular care when selecting and planning a peel because inflammation can lead to unwanted pigment changes.
YOUR CONSULTATION
We will review your skincare, medicines, previous procedures, cold sores and any history of unusual scarring or sensitivity. Explain any upcoming holidays or events. Ask which peel is proposed, why it suits your concern and how the expected benefit compares with skincare or other options.
PREPARATION AND TREATMENT
You may need a preparation plan before your appointment. Follow the advice given for your own skin rather than stopping or starting products yourself. On the day, skin is cleansed and the solution is applied and monitored for the planned treatment. The process and sensations will be explained before you consent.
RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE
Redness, sensitivity, dryness and peeling can occur; the degree depends on the peel. Follow the advice on moisturising, sun protection, makeup and restarting active skincare. Do not pick or pull peeling skin. Persistent pigment changes, infection and scarring are possible complications.
RESULTS AND FURTHER TREATMENT
Allow the skin to heal before assessing the outcome. Some plans involve several treatments, while others may not be appropriate to repeat frequently. A course, spacing and maintenance should be tailored to the chosen peel and your response, with no guaranteed result.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Will my skin always visibly peel? Not every peel produces the same amount of shedding; this alone does not tell you how well it has worked.
Can a peel suit darker skin? Sometimes, after careful selection and assessment; it is not one-size-fits-all.
Can I have one before a special occasion? Discuss timing so there is adequate recovery time.
