Vitamin B12 supports normal red blood cell formation and the nervous system. B12 injections may be used when there is a clinical need, including some forms of deficiency or difficulty absorbing B12. Tiredness alone does not establish a deficiency, and an injection is not a guaranteed energy boost. ASSESSMENT FIRST Your symptoms, medical history, medicines, allergies and any blood-test results or existing treatment plan will be reviewed. Further testing or discussion with your GP may be appropriate. Tell Selina about cobalt allergy or a previous reaction to B12. Treatment is offered only when clinically appropriate. WHAT TO EXPECT If indicated, the prescribed preparation is administered by injection. The dose, frequency and need for follow-up depend on your assessment and the cause of any deficiency. A package does not replace an individual treatment plan. AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT Injection-site discomfort, redness or swelling can occur. Other effects depend on the preparation; serious allergic reactions are rare. You will receive product-specific advice. Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the mouth or throat.
